Tail

Start with grey yarn

R 1: 6 sc in mr[6]
R 2: inc x 6  [12]
R 3: 12 sc[12]
R 4: (inc, 1 sc) x 6  [18]
R 5: 18 sc  [18]
R 6: (2 sc, inc) x 6  [24]
R 7-9: 24 sc (3 rounds)[24]

FO. Stuff with fiberfill. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Stuff the tail firmly, then sew it onto the body with the second half of the round placed at the bottom. This position helps keep the tail from pointing downward too much. Next, you can embroider the facial details and hide the loose end of the black yarn behind the tummy.

For the nose, make several short horizontal stitches with one small vertical stitch underneath. Then, add three straight whisker lines on each side below the eyes. After that, embroider a tiny horizontal line for the mouth.

If you would like to make Totoro’s signature big smile, cut a small piece of white felt and glue or sew it on neatly. Finally, add short black vertical stitches across the felt with thread for the finishing touch.
